MKDA Opens Miami Office

MKDA today announced the opening of its third location. The new Miami, FL office, situated at 1101 Brickell Avenue, joins the firm’s New York, NY and Stamford, Conn. offices and will provide architectural design, interiors, branding and project management services. Clientele will include corporate, hospitality, healthcare, retail and residential space users as well as commercial building owners, residential developers and real estate brokers.

According to MKDA, the timing is optimal to enter the Miami market as commercial tenants are locking in lower rent costs and expanding their footprints. The firm noted that commercial brokerage firms such as Cushman & Wakefield are also expanding their operations in the region to take advantage of current market conditions.

“Miami is a leading international center for commerce and trade. We remain positive on its outlook and believe there’s room in the market for a firm like ours, one backed by 54 years of experience and offices in New York and Connecticut,” said MKDA President Michael Kleinberg. “With this location, we will be better equipped to serve clients with multiple market locations, and to further our brand as we look to future expansions.”

MKDA has appointed Amanda Hertzler, NCIDQ, IIDA, as executive managing director of the new office. In addition to creating branding and interior solutions that build on clients’ strategic marketing positions, she is responsible for project management on commercial projects and the overall creative direction of the office.

Ms. Hertzler was most recently the founder and managing director of Miami-based ThreeSixty Studio, where she developed interior design and branding strategies for commercial, retail and residential clients. Her global experience in interior design, branding, project management and construction administration includes tenure with notable design firms such as Gensler. She studied design and architecture in Paris at the Université de Sorbonne before earning a Master’s degree in Interior Design from Pratt Institute in New York City.

“Amanda and her team have deep regional experience that will bring value to our clients and further our reputation,” said MKDA Partner Jeffrey Kleinberg. “The close collaboration between our New York and Miami offices will ensure that our South Florida clientele benefit from capabilities on par with large national firms alongside the personalized approach that has been our hallmark for decades.”

“I look forward to helping introduce the MKDA brand to the South Florida market while utilizing the firm’s resources to secure noteworthy projects,” said Ms. Hertzler, who is concurrently an adjunct professor at the Miami International University of Art & Design. “My team and I remain committed to listening to and understanding our clients’ needs and providing design solutions that are functional and inspiring.”

In addition to Ms. Hertzler, MKDA has appointed Stephen Peck as senior interior designer. Mr. Peck has over 15 years of experience as a design consultant and project manager in residential design in Miami and Miami Beach. Prior to his career in design, Mr. Peck worked as a board certified pediatrician. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Asian Studies from Tufts University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Design from Miami International University.

The Miami location marks MKDA’s commitment to expansion. The firm plans to open additional offices in cities with strong commercial office markets, such as Washington, DC.
