While Flatiron Health is a progressive tech firm, their focus is on cancer research. It was important to Flatiron Health to have these two ideals reflected in their new office space with a somewhat serious and calming feel. To do this, MKDA project team members incorporated calming blues and greys into the design while integrating biophilic elements throughout the space. This was done by placing moss onto various columns and arranging planters throughout open areas and lounge hubs.
It was also important to Flatiron Health that their mission statement – to improve lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient – was clearly displayed, especially in the reception area which was created with modern and sleek wood paneled walls and geometric rugs to welcome clients. They created a large and open cafe for Flatiron’s daily catered lunches that was inviting and comfortable with several banquettes and lounge furniture with white boards. A large library and support center assist in maintaining a quieter open area workspace, and a large event space on the 5th floor was designed with an AV projection system and a stage for meetings and presentations. Each of the four floors of Flatiron Health are complete with a large pantry, commercial grade refrigerators, espresso machines, carbonated water machines and cold brew kegs.
