Established in 1959, MKDA is one of the nation’s most enduring family-owned interior space planning, design and branding firms.
MKDA specializes in the workplace, but offers the full scope of integrated interior design services for practice areas that range far and wide. Our capabilities match those of larger firms, but we continue to provide senior principal involvement and the personalized, hands-on approach that has been our hallmark for decades.
Principals Michael and Jeffrey Kleinberg lead the firm and its team of professionals, all with proven track records of successful client collaboration and expert knowledge in local markets, current trends and research.
We enjoy a high rate of repeat and referral business by consistently delivering a positive client experience and interiors that perform to the highest level.
MKDA remains ranked by Interior Design magazine as a Top 100 Interior Design Giant and has been named by Interior Design magazine as a 2013 Best of the Year Honoree.
We want to bring our clients’ unique stories to life through their interiors. To uncover these stories, we begin with a dialogue. We ask smart questions and then we listen. We don’t stop until we have a comprehensive understanding of our client’s culture and goals.
Once we do, we apply our experience and employ the latest workplace research to achieve workspaces that are tailored to our clients’ individual needs for operational efficiency, collaboration, productivity, flexibility, technological integration and brand relevancy.
These high performance spaces, which balance form and function, and are achieved with respect for our clients’ schedules and budgets, are designed to be comfortable and visually meaningful with a minimal environmental footprint.
To get there, we engage our clients in the process and encourage collaboration and participation. We refrain from designing in a vacuum or putting our design stamp on a space. We offer numerous design options and then employ high-level analysis to determine the most creative and cost effective solution. The most successful and engaging spaces come out of a comprehensive, collaborative and responsive approach that refines our clients’ visions.
To us, every design element has to have purpose and meaning in order to tell our clients’ stories.
When Milo Kleinberg founded MKDA, he set out to establish an innovative interior design firm that would marry European sophistication with American utility, an approach that stemmed from his emigration from design-rich Vienna to pragmatic Brooklyn.
After launching in New York, MKDA quickly became the Garment District’s leading design firm, designing showrooms for high-profile fashion brands of the time like Gloria Vanderbilt.
When current partners Michael and Jeffrey Kleinberg joined the firm in the 1970s, they diversified the firm’s practice areas and spearheaded new service lines such as project management and building owner services that no other peer firm was doing at the time. MKDA at the time was one of the earliest adopters of Computer Aided Design (CAD).
This forword thinking approach continues to drive our firm today and has helped MKDA grow from a small family-owned business to become one of the leading up-and-coming national corporate interior design firms. With additional offices in Stamford and Miami, MKDA today provides interior design services for a broad range of clients in key markets nationwide.
We are proud to be among the first corporate interior design firms to recognize—from the very beginning—the importance of infusing form and function within interior environments. We believe that it is this longstanding history and culture of innovation that has given us roots, and a strong foundation from which to service our clients
