W.J. Deutsch & Sons Expands into Newly Designed Offices to Accommodate Growth

New York, NY, February 14, 2010—The Stamford office of leading corporate interiors firm MKDA has designed 30,000 square feet of office space on the Third Floor at 709 Westchester Avenue in White Plains, NY on behalf of W.J. Deutsch & Sons, a family-owned and -operated wine and spirits company that has expanded and relocated its Headquarters from 180 Corporate Park Drive.

“We’ve enjoyed significant steady growth over the life of our company, and explosive growth following our movement into the spirits sector,” said W.J. Deutsch & Sons Chairman William J. Deutsch, whose firm underwent three expansions within just six years at its previous location. “It was time to find a functional space that would suit our brand for many years to come.”

“In terms of functionality and aesthetics, the new space should be adequate for the next 10 years,” added W.J. Deutsch & Sons CEO Peter Deutsch, who worked closely with the design team to devise the concept for the space, and in the selection of materials and furniture.

According to MKDA, the concept for the W.J. Deutsch space was to incorporate images that conveyed the firm’s brand, its labels, and core business in order to create an environment that would leave a lasting impression on the firm’s many visitors and create a comfortable and efficient office for the firm’s employees.

“It was important that the new office would function well, support the firm’s business objectives and capture the essence of the company’s corporate character,” said MKDA-Stamford Executive Managing Director and Director of Design Julia Lindh, who designed the office space alongside MKDA Project Manager Michael Sanchirico.

The space, which provides room for future expansion, was designed in a neutral color palette inspired by the numerous wine color variations. The reception area was designed with high-end finishes, such as polished marble flooring and Sapele wood paneling, recessed display cases for the firm’s wine brands, lighted picture rails, and a custom-designed raised relief collage made of individual wine labels. A glass wall separates the reception area from the conference room and features frosted and clear glass logos.

The executive wing consists of two administrative workstations and six private offices designed with custom Sapele millwork and glass, an executive pantry and an executive washroom. Resembling the interior and exterior of a wine barrel, MKDA custom-designed a wall in the executive boardroom with Sapele wood paneling, metal rims and a mural.

An open and airy back office was fitted with full-height wood and glass Teknion wall systems and low profile workstations in cherry wood. Offices were designed with full height glass and wood fronts.

Adjacent to the employee breakout room and pantry, MKDA designed a unique event space with cork flooring where the firm can hold its wine tastings, trainings and presentations. In addition, MKDA designed a 400-square-foot, high-end wine storage room that features special wood shelving, climate controls and lighting.

“MKDA, together with the contractors and furniture suppliers, created a thoughtful environment that leaves a lasting impression on our guests and provides our entire staff with a pleasurable and efficient working environment,” said Mr. William Deutsch, who founded the company in 1981 to market quality wines produced by prestigious families from major wine regions of the world.
