When Schierson expanded their office to a 2nd floor in their building, they wanted the new space to feel like an extension of their existing office. The challenge was to take a pre-built design and elevate it into a space that felt uniquely made for them. They had a residential, industrial feel that they wanted to improve upon within their new space. The Schierson culture is youthful and energetic, and the MKDA project team wanted to capture this in the design. This was done by creating a custom-made reception bar that doubled as a coffee/beer bar and reception desk, large executive offices that feel more like a high-end lounge than an office, a game room with pinball and a fully stocked bar cart for after-hour happy hours. They designed a town hall space with a projector and modular sofas, open lounge spaces with powered sofas so employees can work from them, and furnished terraces that offer employees the opportunity to work outside during nice summer days and enjoy the view of the city and nearby Bryant Park.
