A Reimagined Eco Resort in the Caribbean

MKDA crafted Casa Mar, a reimagined tropical eco resort set within the lush landscape and crystal clear waters of St. Croix, to be environmentally friendly and sustainable. The self-sustaining resort, with 488,000 square feet of total beachfront property, captures solar power and rooftop rainwater for harvesting and filtration. MKDA designed the 170,000-square-foot resort with 108 lavish oceanfront villas, and the 45,000-square-foot oceanfront clubhouse with treatment rooms, banquet rooms, green rooftop event space, and a restaurant.

Natural Wood with Passive Cooling Function

Both buildings feature an abundance of natural wood and folding glazed panels that create sweeping vistas and passive cooling while bringing the visual beauty of the surroundings into the interior spaces. Substantial natural wood overhangs provide shading and privacy, and create a visual aesthetic of free-floating terraces.
