Intensive Programming Phase and Behavior Mapping

MKDA partnered with SS&C Technologies Holdings, a global provider of financial services software and software-enabled services, to bring over 900 personnel from multiple offices across NYC into a single 150,000-SF workplace. Due to the relocation and consolidation of seven different offices onto three floors at 151 West 42nd Street, the project required an intensive pre-design and programming phase to ensure optimal space planning, workplace performance and functionality for users.

Designed within the constraints of the building standard and budget, MKDA employed a simple, uncomplicated design aesthetic. The project team employed data and behavior mapping to create a dynamic innovation area at the front of the house that supports multiple user experiences: reception and visitor experience, collaboration and socializing, casual and formal meetings, and food and nourishment.

Change Management for Cultural Shift

The office also features a mix of open work areas with benching, private offices and huddle rooms with hoteling, collaborative areas and multiple breakout areas along the perimeter to take advantage of the natural light. Having transitioned from multiple closed office environments with perimeter offices into an open workplace with private offices at the core, and from cubicles to benching and sit-stand desks, required a significant cultural shift for SS&C Technologies. MKDA worked with JLL on change management practices to guide the firm through the transition seamlessly.
