Women’s History Month Spotlight: Jung Kim

In honor of Women’s History Month, MKDA Studio Director Jung Kim recently sat down with Waldner’s to discuss her experience in the design industry. She provides invaluable insights about her career journey, discussing both the challenges and opportunities she has faced, and serves as an inspiration for the next generation of women in the workplace.

1. What is the proudest moment in your career journey thus far?

“Being a working mom and raising two beautiful children for twenty years. There were many moments it felt nearly impossible to balance work and family, and I criticized myself for not doing either well. In time I gradually learned to juggle the two and give myself credit when things are not perfect. I have a lot of respect for the other working moms in the industry– they are my inspiration.”

2. Share a challenge you have faced in your career and how you overcame it.

“As a woman of color and an immigrant, I used to feel insecure when presenting my ideas and making my voice heard. Then I realized that if I do my homework, know my stuff, and be confident, my inputs are taken as valuable.”

3. What advice would you give to the next generation of women in the workplace?

“Whether given a project big or small, work with passion and take pride in what you accomplish. Don’t be afraid of trying things outside of your comfort zone and making errors.”
