At MKDA, we believe that investing in the next generation of architectural professionals is just as important as the work we do every day. For the past two years, we have been proud participants in the ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York, a national initiative that connects high school students with industry professionals in architecture, construction, and engineering.
This year, Project Managers Raymond Herrera and Howard Johnson dedicated their time and expertise to guiding a team of students through every stage of a real-world design project. The result was Sunny 41 at Sunnyside Yards — an ambitious mixed-use urban development concept featuring a hotel, residential complexes, and community amenities including an amphitheater, art museum, and ice skating rink.
The students demonstrated a remarkable level of commitment and technical rigor throughout the process. From hand-drawn floor plans and HVAC riser diagrams to LEED sustainability considerations and a full project budget and schedule, the depth and quality of their deliverables rivaled the work of seasoned professionals. It was a powerful reminder of what young people are capable of when given the right guidance and opportunity.
MKDA looks forward to continuing our involvement with ACE and remains committed to opening doors for the next generation of architects, engineers, and builders who will shape our cities for years to come.
